Location: Carmel, IN

The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) documents and analyzes work processes within their assigned business unit(s) to find ways to improve efficiency and identify opportunities for automation and cost reduction. By sharing expertise of internal and external systems used by the business units, the BRM assists IT with understanding and aligning with the business’ needs to achieve maximum return on each project. The BRM stewards the project request process on behalf of the business units and works with IT on prioritization of these projects.

The Business Relationship Manager represents his or her specific assigned business unit(s) on projects which involve:

  • Defining business requirements pertaining to application development, desktop computing and data needs
  • Project issue resolution and risk mitigation
  • Planning and stewarding the execution of User Acceptance Testing
  • Planning and stewarding of tasks to ensure that the business units are prepared for the changes to work environment resulting from project implementations

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Governance
    • Stewards the project request and approval process for the assigned business unit(s)
    • Actively engages with the cross-functional PMO Project Coordination Team focused on management of the corporate project portfolio
  • Project Execution
    • Actively engages with the cross-functional PMO Project Coordination Team focused on successful project launches, holistic requirements definition, project issue resolution, project risk mitigation and overall quality assurance
    • Represents and serves as the principal point of contact for assigned business unit(s) on all application development efforts
    • Plans for and manages project activities to ensure business readiness (including training) as part of project implementations
    • Works with IT Business Analysts to ensure complete definition of system, data and process requirements
    • Prepares user acceptance test plans, engages appropriate users and oversees execution of user acceptance testing
  • Business Support
    • Develops and maintains flow diagrams and procedures for all processes in the supported business unit(s) in collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture team
    • Establishes and maintains baselines of current technology and process states, and maintains understanding of in-flight and proposed project work
    • Becomes proficient with all software applications utilized by the business unit(s) supported
    • Represents the supported business unit(s) in warranty and production support issues
    • Manages business systems administration including system application and permissions setup for all users in the business department supported
    • Supports the reporting needs of the department by utilizing business objects and the enterprise data warehouse
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Actively engages with the cross-functional PMO Project Coordination Team focused on successful project delivery, sharing of best practices, capture of lessons learned and implementing cross-functional organization process improvements
    • Partners with IT to refine the IT catalog of services and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to meet business needs on an ongoing basis
    • Partners with business units to identify and capture Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Actively engages in the data stewardship committee
    • Owns outside vendor relationships and seeks IT and Legal guidance relating to third party software
    • Actively engages with stakeholders in both the business and IT groups to gain and maintain awareness of ongoing strategic initiatives
    • Actively communicates with these business partners and promotes positive relationships, including post-project satisfaction assessments and measurement of actual benefits realized from projects
    • Partners with Sales and Marketing to monitor the industry to identify opportunities to advance the product lines of B&L from a technology and competitive standpoint
    • Engages in strategic planning with business units, IT and at the corporate level

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Computer Science, MIS or Business Administration, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of business relationship management, or 4+ years of business analysis or equivalent experience
  • Business analysis (e.g. CBAP) certifications a plus
  • Knowledge of IT and data management concepts and strategies
  • Experience with business intelligence and report writing and query tools, such as Business Objects
  • Insurance industry experience, specifically commercial lines P&C insurance, preferred
  • Superior verbal and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation and decision making skills
  • Excellent listening, oral, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to promote a team environment
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to think independently with little direction and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Availability for up to 10% travel
